  • consolidate information between different systems for better
    internal and external reporting
Our experience and customer relationships have evolved OCIE into a solid, highly developed solution that will remedy a wide range of information management challenges. OCIE has served customers in more industries longer than many competitors.

The OCIE Solution-as-a-Service model safeguards your information and help you avoid the technology risk and steep costs of administration, operation, equipment, and storage. OSS customers focus on saving time, effort, and money while OCIE defends and enforces internal and external policies.

In 1993, Donnell Systems instituted the vision of “Solution-as-a-Service.” OCIE was furnished as an application service long before “ASP” or “Software-as-a-Service” (SaaS) became industry acronyms.

The distinction between Solution-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service

The Commonalities of:
Software-as-a-Service and Solution-as-a-Service

  • On-demand resources
    • Licenses, storage, and compute power are provided and charged as required.
  • Reduced capital budget
    • No initial expenditure for equipment/software is
      required.
  • Reduced maintenance/administrative costs (Total Cost of Ownership)
    • Little to no administrative activities are required to support the product.
    • No maintenance contracts are required to be managed.
    • No costs for resource upgrade fees to support out-dated hardware.
  • Strategic outsource of resources
    • Allows staff and other resources to focus on market
expertise -- build your product better and have experts
      maintain the supporting infrastructure.

The Differences of:
Software-as-a-Service

  • Shared Environment
    • Increases performance risks by sharing server resources amongst customers.
    • Increases security risks by mingling your information with that of other customers.
    • Inability to control environment requires upgrades and feature changes to be implemented.
  • Limited in functionality
    • Enhancements to the software are restricted to what the provider is willing/able to implement.
  • Information is held only by the provider
    • Your information is held "captive" by the provider, and is not readily accessible to you.  Dealing with exports, often requires expert knowledge of taxonomy and formats that only the provider possesses.

Solution-as-a-Service:

  • Isolated environment
    • All OCIE Server resources are dedicated to supporting your required activities.
    • You have complete control over upgrades and release schedules.
    • Provider's policies and procedures integrate into your existing change control and security processes.
  • Customizable based on business needs
    • Multiple implementation paradigms are available address budgetary and security concerns.
    • The system is extensible, and so can be modified to work with your environment.
  • Information is owned by the customer
    • Can be delivered in mass in a non-proprietary format.
  • Autonomous operation
    • The OCIE Server is located in your environment and is under your control.  It is capable of collecting and delivering documents without any administrative activities.

What is the Solution-as-a-Service and why choose it?

Many organizations that sell Software-as-a-Service hold your data. When your contract is over, they do not hand your data back to you. Donnell Systems uses a different methodology. With OCIE, you control and own your data and have the right to it in a non-proprietary format.

The Solution-as-a-Service option is an attractive alternative for organizations that lack the infrastructure or resources to deploy an enterprise-wide, fixed content information management solution. Solution-as-a-Service is also ideal for those who prefer to avoid up-front investment or technology risk. Solution-as-a-Service customers enjoy additional peace-of-mind knowing they will receive a periodic technology refresh and ongoing conversion of their backups that were written to legal archive media as part of this service.
